“During the mechanical ages we had extended our bodies in space. Today, after more than a century of electric technology, we have extended our central nervous system itself in a global embrace, abolishing both space and time as far as our planet is concerned. Rapidly, we approach the final phase of the extensions of man – the technological simulation of consciousness, when the creative process of knowing will be collectively and corporately extended to the whole of human society.” ("Understanding Media", 1964)

Inspired by these thoughts of the Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan, the percussion duo reConvert explores instruments that make it possible to fix and move sound in space and create three-dimensional sound images. (ex)tension is about the mechanical and digital possibilities of the physical and mental expansion of drumming. First individual tones move, then, when this movement has reached its limits, the movement in space and in the microtonal range begins. (ex)tension is not a composition. Rather, it is an instrument that bridges the space.

After the concert on May 8th, (ex)tension will continue on May 9th and 10th as an interactive installation, which the public can freely walk through and listen to during the opening times between 3pm and 7pm.
